Shudokan Karate  - the traditional Japanese art of self-defense and a way of life that has been handed down from generation to generation, from Anko Itosu (1832-1916) to Kanken Toyama (1888-1966) to Walter Todd (1927-1999) to Morris Mack and then to Shihan Dave Lybbert, who now brings these generations of experience to Walla Walla.

Kanken Toyama - Toyama started his karate training at the age of 9. Toyama 's interest in martial arts was not limited to karate. He was considered an expert swordsman, as well.

Shudokan - The name of Toyama 's school was Shudokan, which means "Institute for the cultivation of the way." Today, Shudokan karate is a composite system, encompassing weapons practice and kata.
